ISLAND PROFILE / MILNE BAY

Mountain country above the sea.

Goodenough is one of the major islands of the D’Entrecasteaux group. It offers a different geographical setting from the low coral islands found elsewhere in the province.

Make the journey about the people and place you are actually visiting. Ask a local host about suitable walks, community visits and opportunities to learn about the island’s history. Access to inland places needs local knowledge and realistic preparation.

Planning your visit

Confirm current transport, accommodation or hosting before travelling. Do not assume a scheduled connection or a lodge is available.

A locally hosted experience

Ask the appropriate hosts which places and activities they are comfortable sharing. Confirm fees, photography permission, transport and a return plan before setting out. Buy directly from local makers where possible and carry waste away.
