ISLAND PROFILE / MILNE BAY

An encounter shaped by local welcome.

Woodlark, also known as Muyuw, is part of Milne Bay’s wider island geography. A 2024 expedition account describes a hosted visit at Wabunun Village, including a welcome at the school and time spent talking with residents.

Plan a visit around an actual local invitation. An expedition account does not mean a village offers a daily visitor programme, and hosts should decide which places and activities are suitable to share.

Planning your visit

Confirm a host and transport arrangements for your specific destination on Woodlark. Allow time for changes in weather or local circumstances.

A locally hosted experience

Ask the appropriate hosts which places and activities they are comfortable sharing. Confirm fees, photography permission, transport and a return plan before setting out. Buy directly from local makers where possible and carry waste away.
